D2L Crew (Foto Energy Shootout #2) Behind the Scenes Video

I got a chance to shoot a little bit of on-the-fly video between set-ups of the D2L Crew shootout last week. The video below consists of mostly unedited clips from my 7D, some of which are out of focus or badly exposed. I promise, sometime in the near future I will start using the 7D for more interesting projects than shaky home-video style behind-the-scenes clips :) Until then…

Foto Energy Series – Shootout #2 – D2L Crew

For the second Foto Energy shootout which took place last Friday, Focus Photography Workshops organizers put together a session with Denver’s D2L (Dance 2 Live) crew at the Centerstage Starz Theatre and Dance Studio. I’ve always been fascinated by break dancers, so it was exciting to watch these guys and girls perform all kinds of crazy spins and jumps, contorting their bodies into poses I couldn’t even imagine trying to attempt.

As Mark Alison (workshop organizer and instructor) pointed out, shooting dancers in motion, much like shooting sports — is all about anticipation. It was a challenge trying to freeze the motion while also keeping composition in mind. Sometimes it worked well; other times – not so much! Either way, the shootout was a blast, as always.
